    Skelaxin is taken for:

    Treating discomfort associated with acute painful muscle or bone conditions with rest, physical therapy, or other measures.

    Skelaxin is a muscle relaxant. It works by depressant effects on the central nervous system (brain).

    Do NOT use Skelaxin if:

    • you are allergic to any ingredient in Skelaxin
    • you have a known tendency to drug-induced, hemolytic, or other anemias
    • you have severe liver or kidney problems
    • you are currently taking sodium oxybate (GHB)

    Contact your physician or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

    Before taking Skelaxin :

    Some medical conditions might interact with Skelaxin . Tell your physician or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

    • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
    • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
    • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
    • if you have enlarged prostate gland, liver or kidney problems, or porphyria

    Some MEDICINES MIGHT INTERACT with Skelaxin . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

    • Sodium oxybate GHB because an increase in sleep duration and a decrease in the ability to breath are possible to occur

    This might not be a complete list of all interactions that might occur. Ask your health care provider if Skelaxin might interact with other medicines that you use. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

    How to use Skelaxin :

    Use Skelaxin as directed by your physician. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

    • Use Skelaxin by mouth with or without food.
    • If you miss a dose of Skelaxin and you are taking it regularly, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your natural dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at one time.

    Ask your health care provider any questions you might have about how to use Skelaxin .

    Important safety information:

    • Skelaxin might cause drowsiness or dizziness. These effects might be worse if you use it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Skelaxin with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
    • Do not drink alcohol or use medicines that might cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are taking Skelaxin ; it might add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines might cause drowsiness.
    • Diabetes patients - Skelaxin might cause the results of some tests for urine glucose to be wrong. Ask your physician before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine.
    • Lab tests, including liver function, might be performed while you use Skelaxin . These tests might be taken to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to store all physician and lab appointments.
    • Skelaxin should not be taken in CHILDREN younger than 12 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
    • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your physician. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of taking Skelaxin while you are pregnant. It is not known if Skelaxin is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Skelaxin .

    Possible side effects of Skelaxin :

    All medicines might cause side effects, however many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your physician if any of these most GENERAL side effects persist or become bothersome:

    Dizziness; drowsiness; headache; irritability; nausea; nervousness; upset stomach; vomiting.

    Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

    Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); anemia (low iron or short blood counts sometimes resulting in fatigue); fever; sore throat; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

    Proper storage of Skelaxin :

    Store Skelaxin at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and thin. Do not store in the bathroom. Store Skelaxin out of the reach of children and away from pets.
